In Defense of Country Music

I have quite a few friends who don't like country music. Why? I'm not 100% sure. I remember one of them complaining about the content of country songs saying they are all about "cars, drinking, and sex" I know this is not true. I also know you can find songs on these topics in all genres of music. This post will highlight some of my favorite songs by some of my favorite country bands, or just random country songs I like. I love Taylor Swift but I'm not going to put any of her songs up here because I know people who "Don't like country except for Taylor Swift", T-swizzle also often gets classified as pop music so she's not being included. Side note, if there is another reason you don't get country (accent, instrumentation, rhythms) the only thing I have to say is that a lot of country music is good for west coast swing dancing which is AWESOME so you should give country music a break. On to the songs:

No Reins- Rascal Flatts
"Like a painted wild mustang
Flyin' out across the open range
Finally gets to live her life that way
No fear, no fences, nobody-no reins"
The song is about a girl who left a guy who wasn't good for her and is now on the road to discovering herself.

My Front Porch Looking In- Lonestar
"There's a carrot top who can barely walk
With a sippy cup of milk
A little blue eyed blonde with shoes on wrong
'Cause she likes to dress herself
And the most beautiful girl holding both of them
And the view I love the most
Is my front porch looking in"
This song is about a guy who is reflecting on everything he does and noting that his family is the best part of his life.

This- Darius Rucker
"For every stoplight I didn't make
Every chance I did or I didn't take
All the nights I went too far
All the girls that broke my heart
All the doors that I had to close
All the things I knew but I didn't know
Thank God for all I missed
Cause it led me here to
This"
A song about how if things had gone just a little bit differently you wouldn't have ended up in the fantastic place you are now!

Live Like You were Dying - Tim McGraw
"Some day, I hope you get the chance,
To live like you were dyin'."
This song is about doing brave/important things because if you live like you are dying you live everyday like it's your last and live your life to the fullest =)

Don't Blink- Kenny Chesney
"Don't blink
Just like that you're six years old and you take a nap and you
Wake up and you're twenty-five and your high school sweetheart becomes your wife
Don't blink
You just might miss your babies growing like mine did
Turning into moms and dads next thing you know your "better half"
Of fifty years is there in bed
And you're praying God takes you instead
Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think
So don't blink"
This song is about living in the moment because if you "blink" life will pass without you noticing.

There are 5 AWESOME country songs not about "cars, drinking or sex" =) Hope you give them a chance.

Love these songs! And you know how I feel about Tay Sway. Plus, uh, what are not-country songs about?
